Job 1 of 4
Get a website online
A one-page site with what you sell and how to reach you, live at its own web address.
Before you start: Build needs an active plan. Your onboarding answers help S.I.D write the page.
- Open Build in the left menu. If you keep more than one site, pick its project in the top bar first; otherwise it stays on Personal workspace.
- In the bar at the top, describe the site, for example "a one-page site for a bakery in Durban with our cakes, our hours and a contact form". Press Generate. (You can also ask S.I.D in Mission Control: "Make a one-page website for my business".)
- Wait while it works. You see Reading the workspace, Waiting for the model, then Writing. When it says Updated index.html., the page shows in the preview.
- Check the page. To change something, describe the change in the same bar and press Generate again. Press Undo to go back one step.
- Press the green Publish button. It says Publishing… while it works.
- A green Live chip appears next to the button. Press the copy icon (Copy the live address) and share the address on WhatsApp, your social pages and your invoices.
- After any change, press Republish to update the live page.
When it worked
The bar at the bottom of Build says Live site, and the Live chip opens your page in a new tab at an address that ends in /sites/ and a short code.
If something goes wrong
- You see: Paid plan required for code generation
- Build works on an active plan. Check your plan in Settings, Billing & credits.
- You see: Not enough credits for this request, or Out of credits
- Your AI credits for the month are spent. Usage shows what is left; top up in Settings, Billing & credits, or wait for the new month.
- You see: Rate limit exceeded. Try again in a minute.
- Wait a minute, then press Generate again.
- You see: The model replied without any file content.
- Describe the site in different words, or pick another model in the model picker, and press Generate again.
- You see: Add an index.html to your workspace before publishing.
- There is no page yet. Press Generate first, then Publish.
- You see: Hosted publishing is not configured.
- Publishing is not switched on for your account. Send us a message from Help, Reach us.
- You see: After a reload, Build says Not published
- Your site is still live at the address you copied; Build only forgets the chip. Press Republish to see it again.
- You see: You want your own domain name (like thandiscakes.co.za)
- Your own domain cannot be connected yet. Use the Live address for now.
